Santa Lucia, is one of the rare catholic saint which is celebrated in Sweden (protestant country). She is celebrated in some places since 1700s, but it is only since 1920 that the traditional celebration start to have more importance.

This fest, with Advent, start the Christmas time.

Saint Lucia is born in 286 at Syracuse in Sicilia. She died the 13th of December 304 because of her Christian faith so she became a martyr. Her name is near the latin Lux (Light) and the 13th of December on the Julian calendar was the longest day of the year. Saint Lucia’s day corresponded to the back of the light. She is the patron of Syracuse, and she is prayed by eyes problems peoples, she is the farmers protector.

According to the tradition, she is venerated in a ceremony where a girl, designed «Lucia», walk with a candle  wreath in the front of women procession, every of theses with a candle on the hand and white outfits and a red belt.

Here was the “historical part” of the tradition… It also the occasion for students to make parties! The LuciaKraballen is, according to the Swedish students, the biggest party (Kravall) of the year, with a lot of people expected and a live concert of the Swedish band: “The Soundtrack of our live” took place. To got a ticket, students started to queue from 3pm the day before (and the ticket released at 8 on the tomorrow morning). Hopefully, I was lucky that Hanna, my peer-student queued and got one ticket for me! :D

A bad sound, and too loud (I don’t know if they have some limitation in Sweden) but it was really nice!
