We left early on Saturday in direction to Uppsala, on North of Stockholm with Pascal, Caro, Gesa and Doris. After a 3h30 train journey and one stop at Sala, we arrived in this nice city under the snow.
Uppsala is the 4th biggest swedish city. It’s located 70km to the north of Stockholm and ~130 000 inhabitants lives there. It’s a student town, indeed, its university is the oldest one of Scandinavia and its library has an amazing quantity of books of different kinds and some treasures as the Codex Argentus, a VIth century bible written in gothic language (the oldest Germanic language) with silver and gold letters on purple parchment, and the oldest book of the Edda of Snori, which is a complete presentation of the Nordic mythology! It’s also famous for its castle and its cathedral, which is, with the one of Trondheim in Norway, the biggest of Scandinavia.
We arrive at 11:30am at the train-station, and we went at the tourism office of course, to start the visit: The cathedral, the Gustavianum (the university museum with it’s nice anatomic amphitheatre), the lunch break, the visit (outside only) of the castle, the rune-stones garden and then the library.
In the library, it was really quiet, one small noise and everyone is looking at you. The books we can find there are written in all the languages of the world (it’s always fun to find a book of French quotations, or Japan poems).
When we went out of the library, it was already the night (4pm), so we looked for the different places of the town where there was sounds and lights, wall projections etc.
We went in a nice Italian restaurant, then we took the train for the way back to arrive in Linköping at midnight.
It was a very nice day, with a lot of memories!
