What a nice... bike!

Swedish people like bike! Students too! Anyone who lives in Sweden has to own a bike. It’s essential for every travel you want to do. Presentation…

Introduction

A bike? What is it? Yep, it’s a fool question. According to Wiki, it’s a is a pedal-driven, having two wheels attached to a frame, one behind the other (those of mine are not really). In comparison of walking, bike is 3 times more efficient with the same effort, and 3 to 4 times faster!

To use a bike, you need a cyclist, otherwise the bike don’t go anywhere by itself. You don’t have to be sporty to ride a bike, I’m not and it’s a little bit difficult at the beginning but it’s become an habit.

More than sport…

In France, bicycle is just a sport (Cross bike, races etc.) or a mode effect, but it’s not in Sweden.

For short travels, (less than 10 or 15km) it’s perfect!

Good in every cases…

For the health, environment, atmospheric or noise pollution, a bike is good!

As they said, it’s healthy to make sport everyday and it’s ecologic. You just have to hydrate and feed the cyclist, that is cheaper than fuel, and really less polluting.

A lot of planning for bikes in Sweden!

In France, cyclist is considerate as a danger on the road. They have to ride in the same road as the motor vehicles, and as everywhere, the biggest one has the priority. (I recommend you to read this post: Mon vélo, pièce de résistance urbaine[fr] by Babozor from LGDB).

A common road for bike at the right of the other road

Here, in Sweden, roads for bike are everywhere! And it’s not only a painting line on the main road, but a second road only for pedestrians and cyclists! Moreover, there is a lot of signs to help you to find your way and how many kilometers you have to do to go somewhere.

Hard to lose your way with theses signs

Landscape is very nicer than other road (Forest, nature etc.) and travels are shorter. For example, from the student are (Ryd) there is only 5 min to go to the university by bike, by car, it’s take at least 10 min if you take care about the traffic.

No car parking on the center, only bikes.

Finaly, there is a lot of free bikes parkings, instead of the car parking (~1Kr/5min of parking)

My bike

Here is my bike, an old one with 2 speeds and the wheels not really in a good state but the appearance is so evil! Fun painting on it, it’s easy to recognize it! (how often i see students looking to them bike in the parking) and 2 horns (as the devil :-D )

Mon vélo! (bis)cornu!

My bike!

There is only on front brake, you have to kick-off to brake, it’s an new system for me (I only owned cross bikes)

Donc forget to use lights with your bike! It’s dangerous the evening and policeman are not really friendly with the people who doesn’t respect the rules. A ring-bell could be usefull to avert pedestrian or other cyclist (Or just say “Ring ring!” :) )
